“Creative Ideas to Turn Waste into Value” 🌍

Project Overview

The Academic Resources and Information Technology Office (ARIT),
Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University under the Royal Patronage (VRU),
has implemented the “Creative Waste Management”
activity (DIY by ARIT: Ideas to Make Waste Useful) as part of
the University Development Project under Educational Quality Criteria.

The activity is held every Wednesday from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM
at the DIY Activity Corner in the Central Library Building.

Activity Goal and Implementation

The primary goal is to promote learning and the exchange of experience in resource management following the 3Rs principle:

• Reduce (reducing the use of new resources)
• Reuse (using items again)
• Recycle (processing materials to create new value)

Participants utilize various leftover materials such as plastic bottles, milk cartons,
fabric softener sachets, fabric scraps, paper, and other waste items to create useful objects, decorations, and souvenirs.
📊 Shared Creative Results 🌱
Through collaborative efforts, the activity has achieved the following results:

• ✅ Reduced waste by over 66.80 kilograms.
• ✅ Engaged 52 participants, including both staff and students.
• ✅ Produced 15 creative works from leftover materials, including:
  1. Piggy banks made from waste materials.
  2. Eco-friendly Krathongs (floating baskets) made from waste and natural materials.
  3. Owl keychains from fabric scraps.
  4. Flowers made from fabric softener sachets and plastic bottles.
  5. Baskets made from milk cartons and water hyacinth.
  6. Eco-friendly chair.
  7. Bags made from milk cartons. …and many other creative pieces.

The resulting works are showcased to inspire and encourage greater participation
in creative waste management within the community.
Impact and Alignment with SDGs
This activity emphasizes the participation of staff and students in giving new value to waste materials,
serving as a platform for collaborative learning based on the 3Rs. It not only helps reduce the volume of waste but
also instills environmental awareness and allows participants to exchange skills
and creativity that can be applied to their daily lives sustainably.

🌍 The activity aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
It promotes sustainable consumption and production
by focusing on the efficient use of resources, reducing the reliance on new resources,
and adding value to discarded items.
